Our Quiet Garden

A public space for prayer or reflection

Temporary closure of the garden for renovation work

Due to repaving and other improvement work, the garden will be closed for approximately four weeks from Saturday 27th April 2024.

The present paving and design are 11 years old and the paving has become uneven and frost-damaged. We are installing new path surfaces and slightly altering the layout to make the garden more accessible, beautiful and inviting.  We're also creating a new meditative corner, with seating sheltered from the rain.

We look forward to welcoming visitors back into the garden once the work has been completed.

Beverley Quaker Meeting is part of the Quiet Garden Movement, which nurtures access to outdoor space for prayer and reflection in a variety of settings and creates opportunities for people to experience silence, restfulness in beautiful surroundings.  There are over 300 Quiet Gardens worldwide.

Our garden is open to the public from dawn till dusk every day.  Sometimes it is used for Quaker events, or by other groups who use the meeting house.  All are welcome to use it.

The garden is used regularly and much appreciated by the general public, as well as by the various groups that use the meeting house. More local people discovered it during the lockdowns. It is an important part of our reaching out to the local community.
